Avant Music News

[…]Both players build and relieve tension through a variety of textural strategies such as layering rapid runs up and down the sax on top of thickly impastoed cello chords and glisses; opening up transparent spaces through contrastingly quiet contrapuntal passages; mounting a flurry of upper register notes on the soprano over the cello’s obliquely walking pizzicato. This is about the beauty of angles, some of whose edges are quite sharp.

[…] Opposition, too, has its rewards here, as Mimmo launches a puckish dancing line and Levin counters with an unlikely sombre sojourn in his lowest register. There’s no reason to think it will fit, but it does ... perfectly.

Elevatissimo. Una concentrazione palpabile… Un peso specifico altissimo

[…]Fra apparizione, stupore e dissolvimento (lento, concentrico, direzionato).
Fra cuore e ragione, a fondo conficcato.
Gianni Mimmo (sax soprano), Daniel Levin (violoncello).
